Darien, CT Engagement Session L-O-V-E

It is most likely abundantly clear by now, but we have a serious love for couples who are seriously in love! Like one of aPp’s current clients & friends, Justin & Liz, who are tying the knot this August at the gorgeous Stamford Yacht Club. Gorgeous venue for a gorgeous couple, apropos?

Their engagement session this past weekend captured by their incredibly talented photographer, Jason Weaver of Dreamscape Studio, is just the tip of the iceberg of the cuteness to come. How sweet and adorable are these two?

Check out the full blog post HERE, on Dreamscape’s blog. Liz & Justin- we cant wait to celebrate your big day in August!

A Beautiful Fall Wedding at Country Club of Darien

As we all prepare for the leap into Summer and the busy wedding season, we thought it might be fun to take a look back at a beauty from this past Fall. The wedding of Christine & Joe was nothing short of a true beauty, not only for the incredibly warm and sincere people that they are, but the fact that it happened on an incredibly beautiful October Fall day. Blue skies, sunshine, unseasonably warm weather and a hint of early turning Fall foliage made this day picture perfect! It also helped that they had my good friend, and photographer extraordinary, Bruce Plotkin behind the lens to capture it all in a way that only he can do!

The ceremony was held at the magnificent Fordham University Church in the Bronx (the alma mater of the groom) and the reception was held at the elegant and sophisticated Country Club of Darien (the hometown club of the bride). While we wanted to embrace the season, the classic Fall colors did not excite our lovely bride, Christine. So we threw tradition out of the window and chose a color palate of charcoal grays, greens, and pops of white. And boy are we glad we did as the weather of the day felt like we had one foot in Summer and one foot in Fall!

It was a glorious day! A big thank-you to all the wonderful vendors (see vendor roll below) that made this day possible but most importantly, an even bigger thank-you to Christine & Joe for allowing aPp to be such a special part of their incredible wedding celebration!

Serious engagement photo swooning.

I love when the L-O-V-E between two people is so darn sweet, it makes your teeth hurt. Tooth aching love is the name of the game for one of aPp’s June couples. Even their name is sweet. Annie & Andrew. Told ya.

I was ants-in-my-pants-excited when their incredibly talented photographer Michelle Gardella posted the photos from their engagement session last weekend. I knew the photos would be  GOOD, with such a cute couple and a talented lady behind the lens, how could they not? But I was not prepared for the swoon worthy sweetness and affection that is oozing through these photos.

An un-planned Polished plan

Ask anyone who has ever had more than a 5 minute conversation with me. I am NOT a big fan of the unexpected and unplanned. In fact, I normally go out of my way to ruin a surprise so I know what to expect. Sad, but true. It is a bone of contention between my husband and I. But let’s save that for another blog post, shall we?

Last Tuesday afternoon, I got a call from a client asking if I could put together a catered dinner party for Friday night. A sophisticated dinner party with rentals, catering, floral, the whole she-bang…in 72 hours. So what did I say? What would any half-witted event planner say? But, of course I can do it! I am super woman…or haven’t you heard?

So with a quick call to some industry favorites, we created this beautiful, sophisticated, yet very fun dinner party for one very lucky birthday girl and her friends. With Spanish tapas and Sangria and delicious chocolate fondue, it was a party with a capital P.

The moral of this story? I still don’t really love things that are “unexpected” and I don’t see that changing anytime soon….

But every now and then, an un-planned Polished plan is just as fabulous as anyone that is planned!

A plan & A principle.

I found myself struggling yesterday. Struggling to stay focused, struggling to stay excited, struggling to stay motivated. Struggling to not lose my mind?! I decided to take a deep breath and walk away from my office for a bit. When I returned, I found myself heading over to aPp’s website, and staring at this:

It was JUST the push that I needed to get my head on straight. I reminded myself of all that I want to be and hope to be as a planner in this crazy business! I realized I have not been the most enthusiastic person I know. In fact, I was being a bit of a debbie-downer. I was not laughing nearly enough to keep myself sane and happy. And I was resigning myself too early to defeat when actually, nothing should be considered impossible until it proves to be just that.

So thank you Universe, for the kick in the butt. If there ever was a guiding path for aPp, I am betting on the one above.

A Belle Haven Club wedding in Greenwich, with guest of “honor”- IRENE!!!

Well sometimes you have a guest at an event, and you can’t imagine the event happening without them there. And then sometimes….there are those “other” guests that you wonder, how did my parents sneak them onto the invitation list?!?!

For the beautifully sophisticated wedding of Carroll & Stephen, Hurricane Irene was one of those “other” guests. With so many classic and preppy touches planned for this tented wedding on the shores of Long Island Sound at the Belle Haven Club in Greenwich, the arrival of Irene was not good news! When I got the call on Thursday from the tent company that they would not put a tent up because of the impending storm, I quite literally threw my plans out the window and started from scratch! And thanks to a team of vendors who refused to take NO as an acceptable answer, the dream wedding for this happy couple still happened, despite a little rain and wind…

With soft blues, muted greens, and a bright pop of paprika & pink, this quintessential preppy chic wedding was the perfect expression for these love birds. Both bride & groom are identical twins and it admittedly took this planner a long time to tell everyone apart! With so many stunning floral and design touches by the team at Renny & Reed, I don’t think anyone even noticed that we had to move the party inside the clubhouse. It was a perfectly intimate, warm and cozy celebration while the wind and rain whipped about outside!  All guests arrived and left safely all while declaring….”Oh, there’s a hurricane happening outside? I didn’t even notice!”

Carroll & Stephen, thank you so much for being so wonderful and gracious. It was truly a pleasure to be a part of the memories! The day was perfect, because it was all about YOU.

The photos are fabulous by the very talented Mary Alice Fisher, but WAIT until you see the video by Magic Flute Video! (this song gets me every time!)

Wee Burn Beach Club Wedding with an “Aussie” touch!

To write about the wedding of Ashley & Daphne, and not gush out of control over the amazing details and incredible people, is admittedly a difficult task for me. But I will give it my best.

a Polished plan had the pleasure and privilege to be a part of this wedding from Day 1. I was introduced to Daphne by her sister Barb who said, “I have this sister, she lives in Australia with her boyfriend Ash, and he is going to propose any day now. Daph wants to get married in her hometown with a kick-ass beach wedding that is off-the charts filled with love & fun. Can you handle it?” With a request like that, how could anyone say NO?

So after loads of Skype dates and emails, and only 3 face to face meetings(!), we managed to put together one incredible wedding weekend in Darien, CT for friends & family from New England to Australia. Greeting each guest at arrival was a tote filed to the brim with goodies from both cultures including Vegemite & Tim Tams! Then kicking it all off was an all-american Southern BBQ at the bride’s family home, catered by the finger-licking-good Jeff’s Cuisine. After all, Jeff had to teach all those Aussie’s how BBQ is supposed to be done….

With an amazing team of vendors to pull it all together, the wedding day came together as quickly as the day went by. Thanks to a steady flow of Coopers Pale Ale (which arrived directly from down-under), the photo booth was a hit, the dessert bar a treat, the dance floor packed to the gills, and the vintage fire truck exit a thrill. And the “Bourne Ultimatum” (the groom’s last name is Bourne) given to Daphne during the best man’s speech was, in my opinion, one of the best speeches this seasoned planner has ever heard. Well played!

And if the amazing photos from the oh-so-sweet Maly Blomberg Photography aren’t enough- hold onto your hat. The incredible The Lightmill Film Studio put together a highlights video that is off-the-hook.

Ash & Daph, you and your families are some of the most kind, genuine, and loving people I have ever worked with. Thank you for letting aPp be a part of such an incredible celebration of love & fun!!!

A Holiday Photo Shoot at a Beautiful Greenwich Estate!

a Polished plan was thrilled to be a part of such a fun and festive photo shoot a few weeks ago for Fairfield County Look. The theme of the shoot was a holiday dinner party held at the incredible Nor Tor estate in Greenwich, CT. The models were ballerinas from The Connecticut Ballet company…aren’t they beautiful? Speaking of beautiful…how about those dresses!? Those are custom designs by NYC  fashion designer Fabiola Arias. Just stunning!!

We had a blast working with the team at Fairfield County Look, our good friends Peter & Chris at Elegant Effects, Alyssa at Dovetail Designs, and Sue at Watson’s Catering. Click HERE for the full post on Fairfield County Look!
