A vintage & earthy wedding at Jonathan Edwards Winery in North Stonington, CT

The wedding of Annie & Andrew this past June at Jonathan Edwards Winery was one of those weddings that reaffirmed my belief in true love…..

Annie & Andrew’s enthusiasm for their wedding day was contagious and their desire to create a celebration full of laughter, joy, and a whole lot of fun dictated every decision we made along the way. I was privileged to be introduced to Annie & Andrew by their amazing, too-good-to-be-true photographer Michelle Gardella, and we immediately hit it off. After Annie found inspiration in a vintage-inspired 1920s photo shoot, we hit the ground running and never looked back. Infusing burlap, earthy grays & browns, and touches of red under the canvas of a beautiful Sperry Tent made this design a slightly unexpected combination of colors, textures, and fun. Add in a knockout Jenny Packham wedding dress, individual honey jars as escort cards & favors (lovingly packaged by the brides father who is a novice bee keeper!), a vintage telegram for a wedding invitation, heaps of burlap!, and hand-painted signs from reclaimed wood…every single aspect of this wedding was thoughtfully considered and beautifully arranged.

This was a dream wedding for aPp to be a part of….from the amazingly creative and talented dream-team vendors to the sweeter than sweet bride & groom- we were sad to say goodnight at the end of the wedding. Not to mention the father of the bride’s toast when he included a big shout out and thank-you to their wedding planner….SIGHHH.  Annie & Andrew- thank you for letting us be a part of such an incredible celebration of love and life. xoxo- always.

Until then…aPp

Thankful.

A quick post today to say HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all!

While I try to make an effort each and every day to look up at the sky (at whoever may be listening!) and say THANK YOU for the privilege of being present in this world, I do think it is also important to stop today to give thanks. In an official capacity!

My list is long (I am a lucky lady!) but summarized here. I am thankful for….

  • My daughter Nora. Who is the most wonderfully confusing and rewarding addition to my life. She teaches me something new every day about how to be a better person and a better mom. My life is infinitely more complete because she is in it.
  • My wonderful husband and extended family, siblings, and parents. I am ME because they helped to shape me into the person I am today. I am most definitely a work in progress but I am certain I am a better person because of all of them.
  • My job. My company. And all of you. Not a day goes by that I don’t recognize how lucky I am to have a career that I love. I am constantly challenged and energized by the clients I meet and the events that I plan. Every day is different and I simply love that.
  • My health. After a difficult and scary birth with Nora, I am reminded again how fragile and amazing the human body is. I am thankful that mine allows me to take strong deep breaths, hug and snuggle my daughter and husband, and run like the wind on a summer day.
  • Our country. Every time I turn on the news, I am reminded how lucky I am to be an American. We sure have enough of our own problems as a country, but no where else in this world are citizens afforded the same luxuries and opportunities that we enjoy every day.

So if you haven’t already, stop and look up at the sky and make your own mental list of thanks. And remember it each and every day, not just today.

And enjoy that Turkey feast today! I know my diet is officially ON HOLD. Gobble, Gobble.

Until then….aPp

Meet the newest perfectly Polished team member……

I am the absolute first person to admit that everything in my life has a plan and a purpose. The birth of my child was no exception. My wonderful husband and I had a birth plan, packing list, play list, phone list, direction list, etc. etc etc. We were also supposed to have 5 more weeks……but life has a wonderfully confusing way of working out while simultaneously throwing all your plans out with the trash.

On October 27th, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl by emergency c-section. Her name is Nora May and she is the most perfectly Polished addition to my life.

Nora was born at 35 weeks old because I was diagnosed with a severe case of pre-eclampysia, which is pregnancy induced high blood pressure. If left untreated it can start to cause a breakdown of other organ functions- which I was also beginning to experience. The only cure is delivery and since the goal is healthy baby AND healthy mom- I was brought in for an emergency c-section. Right after Nora was born, she was rushed to the NICU because of immature lung function. She was by no means a “premie peanut”, she was born just a bit over 8lbs, but her lungs needed a bit more time to adjust to the outside world. After a one week stay with the wonderful doctors and nurses of the NICU, we were able to take her home with us.

And life has been perfectly chaotic, disorganized, messy, and cluttered ever since that day! By no means am I thrilled to say it (for we all know clutter gives me a headache), but I am thrilled to admit it and feel it. Bringing a baby home and being its sole care taker is a completely overwhelming experience- in a tremendously gratifying way. So there are dishes in the sink, unread emails, and piles of laundry. All of that can wait until…..

So thank you to everyone, both clients and friends, for this “break” as I take a bit of time to get to know my daughter. We have a long and exciting journey ahead of us as mother & daughter and taking the time now is going to be the beginning of something great. I wont be gone long, nor am I ever really gone (thank you cursed iPhone!), and I wont forget about any of your emails or phone calls- promise!!!

Until then…aPp

Beautiful Engagement Photos by Orchard Cove Photography!

When I saw these engagement photos by the oh-so-fabulous Amanda of Orchard Cove Photography, they immediately put a smile on my face! Chandler and Ryan are an aPp couple getting married next September at the Wee Burn Beach Club in Rowayton and we are so incredibly excited to be a part of their wedding planning adventure! These two are super cute and incredibly friendly (Ryan is from Texas and has that Southern charm that us New Englanders swoon over), and I knew from the moment I met them both that FUN would be the operative word!

See what I mean?!?! Fun, happy, go-lucky people. Makes our job at aPp just that much more enjoyable!

Head on over HERE to the Orchard Cove blog to check out all the beautiful photos….

Until then..aPp

Life moves gloriously fast.

As I logged back into the blog today and sadly realized that I had to stop and think about my log-in name and password, it hit me. Life moves gloriously fast. Some would say too fast. And some (namely ME) would agree, while I hold on to the handlebars and take in as much as possible as life goes zipping by!!!

As I look at the last blog post from July (gasp!), it is a metophorical slap in this planner’s face! How on earth is in mid-September?! I mean seriously! Last I checked we had just had the 4th of July and Summer was gearing up. After an incredibly busy Spring & Summer with so many wonderful experiences and blessings, it is hard to imagine that there is so much more to look forward to in the Fall. While I’d like to say that I spend 100% of my work time focusing on my clients, I will admit- I have been a bit distracted lately. Oh for the past 30 weeks or so…. :)

Better late than never; I am excited to announce that my husband and I are expecting our first baby…in 10 short weeks!!!! I am 30 weeks into the pregnancy and feeling wonderfully round and healthy! Zack and I are incredibly excited to meet this little Polished person inside of me! The sex of this baby will be revealed at the birth, call us old fashioned but we think this is still the best way to do it- Type A personality or not! Because as we all know, boy or girl, there will be no pinks or blues….only greens!

While we have been trying desperately to enjoy every single moment of this amazing and life-changing journey,  it seems l ike I went from this to this in the blink of an eye!!!

Not much has changed….except my waistline!!! The photo on the left was taken the day we first discovered I was pregnant and the photo on the right was taken at 28 weeks while Zack and I were on our “babymoon” in Key West, FL!

So, as the caption says, not much has changed yet- except my waistline! And not much will change after baby arrives- except that I will be both a Polished planner and a Polished mommy. I will save the feminist rants and raves for another blog post, and I will only say this. I plan to be a proud “working mom” showing my son or daugther what it means to make your mark on the world….one perfectly polished event at a time.

Until then…aPp

Beautiful People. Beautiful Events.

There are some days when you feel compelled to count your blessings.

For no other reason than to say THANK YOU to whomever might be listening.

I am fortunate enough to say that my gratitude list is quite long. There are a lot of things tied at the top for #1.

One of those things is the pleasure of working with incredibly beautiful people day after day and getting to call it my “job”. I recently received the images from the amazing Michelle Gardella Photography from the wedding of aPp’s client and friend: Annie & Andrew. While it will take me weeks to compile my favorites from the plethora of  too-good-to-be-true images to put together a blog post, this one jumped off the screen and just made me smile. One of those really big toothy grins too.

Beautiful people make beautiful events. Nothing else really matters. Honestly. The next time you feel yourself stressing about table linens or cake flavors, please remember that.

Thanks for reminding me of that and more, Annie & Andrew. Can you get married every year?!?!?!

Until then…aPp

One of our favorite blogs for the crafty, DIY, and handcrafted bride, Emmaline Bride, is currently featuring a styled shoot that a Polished plan designed along with Sarah Worden Natural Design! Sarah Worden & Sarah Taggart had a spark of inspiration while in the art studio of friend Jessica Jane and thought…Wouldn’t a wedding be just beautiful here?!?!?!

We sure hope you agree but go on over and take a look for yourself! Click Here for the full article and listing of wonderful vendors & friends who helped bring this shoot to life!
