When I launched a Polished plan THREE years ago today, my eyes and heart were so big with the prospect of “what could be”. It was overwhelming and exhilarating all at once. The vast unknown and unchartered land of running a small business was powerful and fearful. I was really kicking myself for daydreaming during all of those business accounting classes in college. Sigh. But aside from the mechanics of keeping a business up and running, I knew this statement was true: I am good at the job of being a professional event planner. I had years of training and experience under my belt and I could offer a service that was unique and important. And I was grateful for that. And I still am.
So now three years later, I am still grateful. And I am also (hopefully) a bit better at efficiently running a small business. But the basic facts have not changed. When you take fear out of the equation, and focus on just being thankful, good things happen. I don’t worry about who will call, or who called someone else. What networking event I attended, or didn’t attend, and who I could have possibly met. Who thinks I am talented, or who thinks I’m just another one of “those” wedding planners. I am truly grateful for the clients that do call, that do get to know aPp, and that do invite us into their special event. It is a privilege and an honor and I don’t take it lightly. It is those clients that fill my days with excel worksheets, Pinterest boards, floor plans, and to-do lists the size of Texas. And three years later, I am perfectly content and perfectly thankful. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

We are super excited to finally share with you the stunning images from an editorial shoot we designed this past September at the Wadsworth Mansion. To say that we had fun designing, crafting, and dreaming up this pretty gem is a bit of an understatement! When Greg Lewis Photography and I were approached by the Wadsworth Mansion to design a photo shoot that would highlight the outdoor spaces of the mansion, we were up for the “challenge”. Of course, it wasn’t much of a challenge at all since there is plenty of beauty all around the mansion grounds. But when we were shown a hidden sunken garden, surrounded by a rock wall, way in the back corner of the mansion – inspiration struck! Rustic and earthy ‘secret garden’ meets glamorous and chic mansion soiree. And well, we couldn’t be more excited with the results!

If I were ever forced to create a list of my “dream” clients, these two ladies would be at the tippity top. Soon after meeting them for the first time over coffee, I knew I had not only just met my new clients but also my new friends. Leah & Lucy wanted to create a beautiful event focused on the absolute most important aspect of the day. Love. The rest should just be icing on the (wedding) cake.
So that is exactly what we did! After they selected (and fell in love with) their venue, Saltwater Farm Vineyard, we created a classically elegant color palette of soft gray, crisp white, and pops of red. Despite being an early June event, the ladies were not really into Spring pastels or bright colors so we stuck with what they knew and liked. And well….the gray color palette really worked well considering Mother Nature decided to give us a tropical storm on the wedding day. It rained. And rained. And rained some more. But despite the overcast skies, the day was still absolutely perfect in every way. Highlights included the ceremony held under a Sperry tent to a beautiful chorus of rain drops. The coolest flash mob by the coolest bridal party, all adorned in matching custom Converse sneakers. The love story of “L & L” told in m&m candies that will literally melt your heart. A fun take on a “groom’s cake” highlighting their favorite hobbies: the Yankees and horse back riding. Gorgeous florals by Stems Flower Design, beautifully captured images by Kelly Prizel Photography, and the sweetest little highlights video by Buzz Media. In short, the Best Day Ever.
To say that working on this wedding was a pleasure is a bit of an understatement. It was a true honor to be a witness to such a spectacular celebration of love. All the absolute best to you beautiful ladies, L & L.

Every wedding I’ve ever attended, I’ve worn heels. As a matter of fact, to every ‘dressier’ occasion I’ve ever attended, I’ve worn heels. However, after multiple sprained ankles and given the fact that my boyfriend is on the shorter side, I hardly ever wear heels in my every day life. Actually, I never wear them. They sit perfectly placed in my closet by season and color coordinated, yearning for me to care about them again.
The reality is that I do care. I am a fashion girl at heart and acknowledge that some occasions and certain outfits just look ‘better’ with a heel. Not to mention the wondrous effect they have in creating a long, lean leg. Ohh la la!!
In recently starting to purchase some new pieces for my spring/summer wardrobe, I came across a pair of flats and immediately thought, what a great bridal shoe. Which led me to investigating the realm of possibilities when it comes to bridal flats. I was pleasantly surprised with the plethora of options, especially since I anticipate wearing flats on my wedding day. I thought it only fair to share a few of my favorites for your viewing pleasure.
Side note: regardless of the shoe you choose, tall or short, be sure to wear them in ahead of time to avoid wedding day blisters. That would NOT be fun!
As we brace for winter storm #2 of three expected to hit CT this week, I find myself looking back on the events of the summer of 2013 and longing for warmer days! And there is no better event to reminisce about than this cheerful countryside reception in Chester, overlooking Gillette Castle. It was held on an absolutely gorgeous blue-sky day in June on the grounds of the bride’s childhood home. Brett & Jay were married a few weeks earlier, in the groom’s home state of California, at a gorgeous Spanish style mission surrounded by close family and friends. They hosted this party for extended family and friends on the East Coast, shortly after they returned from their honeymoon, and a Polished plan was lucky to be a part of the celebration!
We started the design process with a few key inspirational points from the bride. Brett gravitated towards bright and vibrant colors especially pinks, reds, and oranges, she loved the texture and vibrancy of dahlias, and she envisioned crisp white tables with touches of vintage lace. But the most important element for both the bride and groom was to build an event that worked around the amazing landscape and views and not against it. They wanted guests to come, sit back, and enjoy the views just as they would at a laid-back backyard picnic. We were creative with the tent placement so that every guest could maximize the view of Gillette Castle, the barn and animals, and the rolling hillside. With the sun shining down, a gentle breeze with the 80 degree temperature, the smell of delicious paella cooking by the chefs at Barcelona, and the sounds of laughter and merriment by the guests, it was a wonderful event we won’t soon forget!
