Working with Melissa & Robert to plan and design their “non-wedding” wedding reception was such a treat! I knew from the moment I first spoke to Melissa, and she mentioned that they were actually already married (in a private candlelight ceremony in their home the weekend that Hurricane Sandy hit and days before she gave birth to their sons) and that they were the proud parents of 1 year old twin boys (cutest little boys ever, BTW), that this was going to be a party unlike any I had done before!
Melissa joked that they had always done things backwards so it seemed only fitting to have a reception 18 months after their actual wedding and the birth of their twin boys! This lady clearly had a sense of humor and really wanted to have some fun with the design. The party was held in the couple’s beautiful backyard where the centerpiece is a gorgeous in-ground pool surrounded by beautifully manicured lawns and a multi-level patio. While conceptualizing an initial design concept of an ‘adult pool party’, Melissa mentioned that one of their favorite hotels was the famed Raleigh Hotel in South Beach, Miami. One scroll through their website photos and we had set our design inspiration!
We used the hotel’s iconic bold black and white stripes, shades of coral and peach, and brown rattan beach furniture as our jumping off point. We incorporated these design elements into all facets of the event, from the initial guest impression of the completely custom invitation suite, to the mirrored, draped, and palm surrounded bar as guests first entered the yard, to sipping a tropical drink by the pool under a black and white striped umbrella! The most impressive of which were the custom black and white drapery swags that framed the 30ft high outdoor patio area and the custom pennant lampshades in a retro coral print. This patio area was the perfect location for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before guests moved down into the tent to have a casual seafood-inspired dinner followed by an evening of dancing to one of New York City’s best dance bands. We carried the design inspirations into the tent as well with soft and breezy fabric swags, bold black chandeliers, brown rattan lounge furniture, and a black and white checkered dance floor! As guests left the party, they were each given a thank-you gift of a custom wrapped box featuring decadent chocolates from a local chocolatier. It was such an absolute pleasure to work with a client who was willing to have some fun, throw convention and tradition out the window, and create a truly unique and memorable guest experience!
Melissa & Robert, what a truly incredible experience Polished had working with you both! Your willingness to have a whole lot of fun with design, break some traditions, and throw a kick-ass party for your friends and family is unparalleled! We can’t wait to be a part of the next one!

Hold onto your hats everyone! This wedding is SO SWEET, it may actually make your teeth hurt!
The wedding of Barrett & Sean this past June in Nantucket was a first for Polished in many ways. We had planned Barrett’s older sister’s wedding the year before (see Chandler & Ryan’s wedding HERE) so by now, Polished was practically a member of the family! When Barrett approached me asking to help plan her own wedding, and said they planned to hold the celebration in Nantucket where she has spent every summer since she was a young child, I thought…sure! I’ve never been to Nantucket, that’s near Cape Cod, right? (Kidding!) So off we went on a wonderful adventure to explore this absolutely gorgeous island, meet and work with an impressive list of local and talented vendors, and create a stunningly beautiful preppy chic pink & green Nantucket wedding.
Mother Nature was simply too kind to us on this picture perfect day in June. The sky was a brilliant blue, the temperature was seasonably warm with a soft island breeze, and both the Sconset Chapel and Sankaty Head Golf Club were at the peak of their perfection with seasonal blooms and landscaping. We chose a soft color story of pinks and greens and created a gorgeous table scape centered around an abundant amount of pink and white peonies arranged perfectly in a classic Nantucket basket. The bridal party fit perfectly into the color scheme with simple and sweet white dresses for the maids and dapper white slacks and bucks paired with a classic navy blazer for the groomsmen.
When the newlyweds walked out of the chapel, as they stopped to kiss in the doorway, and the bell ringer rang the chapel’s antique bell which you could hear chime throughout the quaint town of Sconset….I nearly died from the pure perfection of it all!
My most sincere thank you to the family for allowing Polished to be a part of yet another incredible wedding celebration! And to the talented vendors who collaborated to make the day a huge success, THANK YOU! Most especially to Jordi Cabre for the gorgeous photos as well as the bride’s aunt who writes a life style blog, Quintessence, where we borrowed some of her lovely detail photos of the day!
Barrett & Sean, it sure was fun! Best wishes to you for a lifetime of happiness spending many more beautiful Nantucket summers as a couple!

My first meeting with Steph & Mike took place on a warm summer day, sipping lemon water while sitting by the pool of Stephanie’s parent’s home in Branford, CT. Sounds pretty nice, considering this was to be the location of their gorgeous Spring wedding this past May! Stephanie’s family has an absolutely incredible home tucked away in a very private location in Branford and it was the PERFECT location to host the classically elegant Black & White tented wedding that Stephanie envisioned. Steph had a very clear design direction in mind right from our very first meeting….nothing too modern or “hip”, classic black and white shades only, elegance abound, all white florals bunched by variety for maximum impact, bold black chairs for drama in the reception, delicious food and a lot of very well poured martinis (her drink of choice!), and a gorgeous Sperry Tent as the backdrop for it all. With a team of incredibly talented vendors on our side, we were able to pull it all off together seamlessly with the help of Mother Nature and a picture perfect Spring day in May. The super talented Steve Depino captured it all beautifully….
It was such a special day filled with elegance and romance and a whole lot of love! And how gorgeous is the family’s home and yard? Stephanie’s parents worked around the clock getting their grounds to look better than many Country Clubs I have visited over the years!! Kudos to them for creating such a beautiful setting for their only daughter’s wedding day!
Best wishes to you, Steph & Mike, for a wonderful life together!

As we mentioned in our last blog post, we had a pretty amazing year of events in 2015. The long (yet fun!) process to highlight all of those incredible events starts NOW!
We started the Polished wedding season in mid-May at one of our favorite venues in Fairfield County, The Belle Haven Club, for Katie & Colby’s wedding. Every event is special for the Polished ladies, but this one was extra special. You see, Katie is an identical twin and her sister Carroll was married back in 2011 and Polished had the pleasure of planning that amazing celebration at the Belle Haven Club as well. It was a full circle moment as we were there again to make some more magic!
Katie & Colby were blessed with a picture perfect gorgeous Spring day with blue skies, bright sunshine, and lots of amazing Springtime hues from the incredible floral design by the incomparable Renny & Reed. And speaking of picture perfect, as always, we had a pleasure working with the lovely Amanda from Orchard Cove Photography. With soft pinks and pale blues and cherry blossoms galore, this wedding was the perfect marriage of Springtime chic and nautical prep at an unquestionably gorgeous seaside location. What a treat!
And we absolutely love this highlight reel from Magic Flute Video!
Katie & Colby and the whole Shaw family, it was such a pleasure to be a part of yet another wonderful celebration! We can’t wait for the next Shaw sister’s wedding!
