Polished Highlights: The Ultimate Greenhouse Garden Party in Old Lyme, CT

When it came time to put together a theme for this June wedding, it was an easy decision for Brooklyn couple Grace and Jeff. They presented us with their idea to throw the ultimate garden party, and you can just imagine the hearts in our eyes!

Under picture-perfect skies, this June wedding began with a sweet ceremony held at the bride’s own grandmother’s home, upon an expansive lawn overlooking Long Island Sound. Grace was a vision in crocheted lace as she walked down the aisle to meet her groom, carrying a sprawling bouquet of blooms freshly cut from her grandma’s rose and peony gardens. How sweet is that?

Following the “I do’s,” the couple snuck away for photos—the kind that still have us gasping! The romance between these newlyweds just grew and grew, as they breezed from the waterfront to the whimsical shoreline forest.

Meanwhile, a very unique cocktail hour kicked off in what’s left of a historic rock quarry on the property. Guests enjoyed sips and bites in the enchanting outdoor alcove as music from a sting jazz trio filled the air. The bride also tied in a personal touch by serving up ice cold Coca-Cola in classic glass bottles—a nod to her family’s roots in the local bottling industry for Coke!

And then, in the true spirit of this dear, vivacious couple, it was time to let the good times roll! While this may have been held on the lawn of the bride’s parents’ home, this was anything but an ordinary backyard wedding!

Nothing could have said “greenhouse” more than the massive clear-top tent, adorned from the inside out with lush greens and big, bright, beautiful flowers. The garden theme carried through every touch point, from the dining tables named for nature’s lovable critters—like Dragonfly and Honey Bee, which were hand-stamped with love by the bride—to the rosy photo backdrop that Grace and her mom DIY’d like pros! Even the menu evoked tastes from the garden, with loads of crisp veggies (and proteins too!) charred over the flames of a live kabob grilling station. Lounge seating spilled out beyond the tent so guests could get cozy and take in the stars later into the night while they nibbled on a late-night snack of the couple’s favorite local caramel corn.

This wedding—just like the couple—nailed that magical union of elegance, ease and downright joy! We’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

Polished Highlights: A Spring Wedding at Keeler Tavern in Ridgefield, CT

We can’t imagine a better kickoff to the 2016 wedding season than the oh-so-demure nuptials of our sweetheart clients, Lindsay and Ryan. That ethereal vibe of the Keeler Tavern in Ridgefield, paired with the bride’s simple, timeless aesthetic—right from the get-go, this one had all the makings of a gorgeous spring wedding in Connecticut!

Our soft, lush design theme kept the focus on the newlyweds and seamlessly brought the outside in, with sweeping floral installations by Stems Flower Design transforming the clean-slate reception space. Oak & Orchid did the most beautiful job of hand-lettering the place cards, tacked to a custom etched sign for an effortless seating display. And can we mention, a lovelier sweetheart table, we never did see!

The Year in Review: A Very Polished 2016

What. A. Year.

2016 was oh so very good to Polished in so many ways! We enjoyed nearly flawless (and I mean, seriously gorgeous) weather at darn near every single outdoor event (Mother Nature, we owe you one!). The bulk of our weddings this year (and typically every year!) are tented at-home celebrations so we at Polished pray to the weather Gods allllll season long! And we had the pleasure and privelage to work with so many clients that were an absolute delight to work alongside! We also got to tap in to our creative juices in brand new and exciting ways (check out those amazing mexican serapes used as table runners!) and we explored and conquered unusual logistical challenges that would have left many others running for the hills (two seperate locations with simultaneously occurring at-home celebrations for the same wedding on the same day!) We have much to be thankful for and are thrilled to look back on the year to relive the memories!

Here are the highlights of 2016, in chronological order:

Polished Highlights: South Farms Editorial Photo Shoot

When my sweet friend Victoria of L’AMOUR FOU and I dreamed about doing an editorial photo shoot, we werent exactly sure what we wanted to do other than to know we wanted it to be different. We both gravitated towards an earthy, rustic, boho style and knew we had to shoot in the great outdoors. We day dreamed and hunted around for the “perfect” location until we found the idyllic White Barn @ South Farms, a historic family farm in rural Connecticut. And a match made in boho rustic chic heaven was made!

This shoot highlights the beautiful juxtaposition of a nomadic boho bridal style in an earthy pastoral setting. The shoot took place in January and the design highlighted the understated beauty of the winter season. We incorporated subtle elements found outdoors during the winter such as branches, feathers, leaves, slate, and rustic wood along with tone on tone shades of brown, green, and ivory. The earthy textures of the table design paired beautifully with the crocheted Rue de Seine wedding dress along with the “necessary” winter accessories like a colorful knit shawl and vintage fur coat. The groom was styled with an equally earthy vibe including his camp inspired patterned shirt and bold burnt orange scarf. While snuggling by a fire, enjoying a steaming cup of coffee in vintage tin mugs, snow started to softly fall and the magic of the winter season filled the air….

This editorial shoot was beautifully featured HERE on one of our fav bridal blogs, Green Wedding Shoes!

Polished Highlights: A Burns Night Scottish Dinner

While I love planning weddings, it is always such good fun to have the opportunity to plan other types of events and celebrations- especially during the slower winter season! So when long time clients and all around wonderful people, the McGrath family, called last January to ask for my help in putting together their 2nd Burns Night Supper, I jumped at the opportunity to be involved! Not only do the McGrath’s have a spectacularly beautiful home but we had such fun designing their 1st Burns Night Supper two years ago, I couldnt wait to dive in again! A Burns Night is a traditional Scottish dinner held to celebrate the life and work of Robert Burns, the widely loved poet from Scotland. (Fun Fact: Burns is responsible for the song we all know and love on New Years Eve- Auld Lang Syne)

The tables were designed to evoke the feeling of a medieval supper club using rustic wood, metal plates, heavy glass goblets, and even wood handled flatware! A custom made tartan plaid runner was used to add texture and color to the two dramatic tables and was also tied into a chair tie for each x back chair. For the floral design, I partnered up with the incomperable Katherine from Botanica who created incredible floral arrangements that paired perfectly with Molly’s vintage silver candelabras. When the lights were dimmed, the candles lit, the fireplace roaring, and the bag piper ushered everyone into the “great hall”, the atmosphere was warm, cozy, and simply magical!

POLISHED HIGHLIGHTS: INTIMATE AUTUMN WEDDING RECEPTION AT KEELER TAVERN

Eric and Xin came to us happily married, with a wish to share their love with those closest to them. The pair were looking to host their nearest and dearest for a luncheon and personal vow renewal. On the agenda was to find a venue with an outdoor autumn view, bring in a chef with to die for food and create a warm, intimate atmosphere.

Keeler Tavern set the tone with its historical charm and beautiful inset garden. The space exudes character yet is enough of a clean slate to accommodate almost any design scheme and color palette. It’s wall of glass doors provides a view for all guests to enjoy the green of the garden, bringing the outdoors in. Together, rentals from General Eclectic and Party Rental Ltd. livened the room with a modern take on an old world feel. Greys and blues popped against orange and cream florals and antique brass featuring some quirky vessels made for conversation during lunchtime.

And oh what a delicious lunch it was! After a meeting at The Schoolhouse at Cannondale it was a no brainer deciding to create a menu alongside Tim LaBant. Highlights included pumpkin and sage infused ricotta and walnut crostini, prime roasted short rib with parsnip puree, chanterrelles, brussel leaves and chestnuts and the “First Place Pie” dessert table. YUM! String music over lunch conversation turned to a full on iPod dance session post meal and we could not be more proud of the day!

The year in review; A very Polished 2015!

As I sit to reflect on this past year, I am overwhelmed with gratitude and appreciation for the abundance of blessings that 2015 brought to the Polished family. It was a year of incredible professional achievements, as we produced events with a wide range of size, scale and complexity, and a year of joyous personal achievements, as we welcomed a new baby and celebrated a new marriage. While we produced far fewer events this year because Sarah was busy enjoying precious new baby snuggles after the birth of her son in late August and Jess was busy being a blushing bride as she married her husband in early October, it was still a deeply gratifying year as we helped some truly wonderful clients bring their entertaining visions to life. As we approach the start of 2016 and begin to plan a whole new year of beautiful events and celebrations, it is always a treat to look back at the year we are leaving behind. Here are the highlights of 2015, in chronological order from January to December.
