Polished Highlights: Spread love it’s the Brooklyn way

You know how some girls grow up dreaming about their wedding day? And others get the ring and then go- ummm, now what? (for the record- we love both types of brides!) Hannah was the later and came to Polished with an intangible feeling for her wedding celebration, but was ready to hand the reigns over to the pros to make it come together in a way that would shine. They had a bullseye for their ceremony location (Andrew’s family church in Long Island) and had stumbled across the Brooklyn Winery is some of their intial research. They threw the idea out to me, and ummmm, I LOVED IT, and the rest is history in the coolest hippest urban winery you’ll ever see.

In our initial design consultation, Hannah zeroed in on a floral arrangement that she loved and never wavered from it- bright tangerine and pink peonies in vintage white milk glass. We took that singular piece of inspiration and, with the help of some insanely gorgeous, bright spring blooms and the talented Violet and Verde, her flowers made the whole space come alive. Hannah wasnt afraid of bright colors but also wanted to honor the space we were in- rustic, industrial, and also- a bit dark! We chose dark metal chairs to go with the venue’s existing wooden tables, heavy black edison bulb lights overhead and candlelight. So.much.candlelight. Another source of inspiration was the vintage tile that greeted you when you first walked in the door, black/white hexagon tiles that we played without througout the paper story- in the invitations and day of paper. I especially loved the tiles for the table numbers! And that wall of greenery? A total show stopper (and totally a part of the regular venue space- dreamy, right?)

The vendor team and venue were all incredible (I didnt even talk about the food yet…the food was SO GOOD!) and Hannah and Andrew were some of the kindest sweetest clients we’ve ever had. (Scroll below the photos for the full vendor line up including all of these gorgeous photos by my girl, Katie Slater Photography!)

Polished Highlights: End of 2017 review!

What.A.Year!! One of our busiest yet, we traveled from the rolling hills of Litchfield to the easy breezy CT shoreline to the busy streets of Brooklyn and lots of gorgeous locations in between! With the bulk of our events being outdoors and in a tent (our favorite kind of events, in case thats not already obvious!) we are mostly grateful to dear Mother Nature who gave us some truly sensational weather for so many incredible outdoor events! And speaking of being grateful, can we talk about our clients? Grateful hardly skims the surface of what we feel about those wonderful people who entrusted us with the task of turning their wildest event planning dreams into tangible experiences and celebrations. The relationships we build with our clients is the best part of the job and one we will never take for granted!

So as we look forward to 2018, and another exciting year of beautiful events, let’s look back at 2017 and all the fun and all the pretty! (Soooooo much pretty!) Cheers to a new year with renewed energy, enthusiasm, and excitement!

Polished Highlights: A romantic spring wedding at South Farms

This was one of our first weddings of the 2017 season and it was fulllllll of all of our favorite things: a beautiful rustic farm setting, a casual yet classy design, a s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g (and incredibly kind and sweet!) bride, some of our favorite vendors and friends, and ummmm…white horses. Yep! White horses. When our bride Michele casually mentioned that her dream was to have white horses grazing the farm during the ceremony and cocktail hour, we were 100% on board with the idea. (umm…duh!) And when she found a horse handler willing to come for a few hours and her soon to be husband “rented” them for her wedding present, we knew this wedding was going to be something special.

We adore South Farms, a family owned farm in Morris (Litchfield), and all the charm it offers our client’s as a venue. Rolling farm lands, multiple meticulously renovated barns, beautiful gardens and perfectly rustic farm tables and chairs, to name a few! Michele envisioned a wedding that honored the rustic vibe of South Farms but wanted to keep it all very light and soft and infuse some french influences as well (hello, lavender and french herbs de provence, ohh la la!) Michele’s family lives in Litchfield, and is very connected in the community, so we were careful to utilize as many local and talented vendors to highlight the local flair for all of their out of town guests. Add in the couple’s favorite local band from NYC and amazing food and drink and an incredible celebration was had by all!

Polished Highlights: An earthy summer wedding at Eddy Farm

Disclaimer on this blog post: All of our clients and their events are special. Every last one of ’em. But this particular one, the wedding of two friends/fellow wedding vendors, where I get to work with so many of my favorite industry creatives, it’s somethin’ extra special!

Victoria & Angelo’s wedding was on a picture perfect late summer day amongst fields of flowers and rows of greenhouses at the picturesque Eddy Farm. Victoria & Angelo are the duo behind L’amour Fou wedding photography (as well as Victoria’s solo venture in motherhood photography, My Motherhood Story). Victoria has been taking photos of my client’s weddings AND of my own children for years and years and I am lucky to call her a friend. And the dream team of vendors that were there to document, design, create and serve every aspect of her wedding were also friends and it was such a pleasure to all work together to make some magic! (Full vendor list below- you dont want to miss it!)

Victoria & Angelo had few requests and “must haves” for their wedding day- they wanted it to be an intimate and warm celebration, nothing too fussy or uncomfortable. A beautiful tent, with great flow and movement, filled with the freshest flowers possible in a muted earthy color pallete of blush, brown, and ivory. Oh and food- really, really great food! (their favorites are pizza and burgers and donuts- hello, meet my perfect meal!) With a gorgeous sail cloth tent, stunningly beautiful flowers in such a unique color story and the most perfect summer weather imagineable, it was a total dream-come-true wedding day! And we were thrilled to be a part of it all. Eye candy below from one of the sweetest and most talented gals in the biz, Ashley Caroline.

The Polished family grew by two feet this year

As the old saying goes…
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes BABY in a baby carriage.

I’m happy to share that my husband Kevin and I welcomed baby girl Etta Blair to the world in October. Weighing in at 7 lb. 6 oz. and 19.5 inches tall, Etta is a most precious addition to our little family. We love her so!

And, after taking some time off to soak up those early baby cuddles, I’m back to planning mode and so excited to meet our happy brides-to-be! Bring on the wedding bells, 2018…the Polished gals are ready for you!

xxo,
Meredith

Polished Highlights: Mid-summer chic at a classic Connecticut yacht club

The July wedding of Emily & Chris at the Pine Orchard Yacht Club was full of the most charming and thoughtful details! I absolutely love working with clients who enjoy focusing on the small details as I truly believe they make the biggest impact on the guest experience! Every design decision was thoughtfully curated, discussed, and designed including the custom stationery suite by Social Alchemy, the gorgeous rentals from Party Rental Ltd and La Tavola, the unique lighting by Social Decor and the innnnnn-credible flower design by Blush Floral.

(see vendor roll below for all the links to these talented vendors!)

The Pine Orchard Yacht Club was where the bride grew up, and spent her summers on the ocean, and it was the perfect “blank slate” space to build her design of pink and gray and soft subtle summer vibes. And that chapel?!?! Oh, that sweet chapel! The ceremony was held in the Pine Orchard Union Chapel and it could not have been sweeter! (I have a serious soft spot in my heart for sweet ol’ little chapels!)

A few of my absolute favorite details include the swizzle-stick escort cards sitting in a glass of rose (greeting guests as they arrived to cocktail hour- does anything sound more refreshing on a hot summer day?!), the charming bird holders for the table numbers, the soft pink napkin and the individual guest names on the top of each one- serving double duty as a place card too, the big-statement chandelier orbs and how they reflected against the mirror in the ballroom, and the FLOWERS! I could gush about the flowers but I think the photos below speak for themselves! It sure was a beautiful day and we were thrilled to be a part of it!

Polished Highlights: The Ultimate Greenhouse Garden Party in Old Lyme, CT

When it came time to put together a theme for this June wedding, it was an easy decision for Brooklyn couple Grace and Jeff. They presented us with their idea to throw the ultimate garden party, and you can just imagine the hearts in our eyes!

Under picture-perfect skies, this June wedding began with a sweet ceremony held at the bride’s own grandmother’s home, upon an expansive lawn overlooking Long Island Sound. Grace was a vision in crocheted lace as she walked down the aisle to meet her groom, carrying a sprawling bouquet of blooms freshly cut from her grandma’s rose and peony gardens. How sweet is that?

Following the “I do’s,” the couple snuck away for photos—the kind that still have us gasping! The romance between these newlyweds just grew and grew, as they breezed from the waterfront to the whimsical shoreline forest.

Meanwhile, a very unique cocktail hour kicked off in what’s left of a historic rock quarry on the property. Guests enjoyed sips and bites in the enchanting outdoor alcove as music from a sting jazz trio filled the air. The bride also tied in a personal touch by serving up ice cold Coca-Cola in classic glass bottles—a nod to her family’s roots in the local bottling industry for Coke!

And then, in the true spirit of this dear, vivacious couple, it was time to let the good times roll! While this may have been held on the lawn of the bride’s parents’ home, this was anything but an ordinary backyard wedding!

Nothing could have said “greenhouse” more than the massive clear-top tent, adorned from the inside out with lush greens and big, bright, beautiful flowers. The garden theme carried through every touch point, from the dining tables named for nature’s lovable critters—like Dragonfly and Honey Bee, which were hand-stamped with love by the bride—to the rosy photo backdrop that Grace and her mom DIY’d like pros! Even the menu evoked tastes from the garden, with loads of crisp veggies (and proteins too!) charred over the flames of a live kabob grilling station. Lounge seating spilled out beyond the tent so guests could get cozy and take in the stars later into the night while they nibbled on a late-night snack of the couple’s favorite local caramel corn.

This wedding—just like the couple—nailed that magical union of elegance, ease and downright joy! We’ll let the photos speak for themselves.
